History

Barefoot Resort for thousands of years was an ecosystem for marine animals, deer, and wildlife that stood just West of the Atlantic Ocean. This tidal area of ocean marsh land was hunted and trailed by the Pee Dee, Wampee, Waccamaw, and other native tribes since times unknown.

In the late 1700’s, President Washington took the trail, now known as Kings Highway, through this area on his trip down South from what is now Washington, D.C.

The Barefoot Resort that stands today began as an humble shopping village known as Barefoot Landing in the late 1970s. Tourists on vacation in North Myrtle Beach gravitated to the site and Barefoot Landing exploded in the eighties.

By the 1990s, the concept expanded to include the four World Class Golf Courses that are now onsite.

In this century, we have added the major Myrtle Beach Vacation condos, built by Centex Homes and the fabulous Barefoot Yacht Club Villas and the Barefoot North Tower.

Barefoot development continues with plans for a town center and many more Golf Villas which are continually being finished.

We are proud of the new Myrtle Beach Resort facility and feel that there is none like it in our area, nor anywhere along the North Carolina or South Carolina coast.
